University and Student Affiliations

Murdoch Center is located near several major universities (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University and North Carolina Central University in Durham, and North Carolina State University in Raleigh).  Therefore, specialized and consultative services are readily available to the center.  Also, students from disciplines such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chaplaincy, therapeutic recreation, psychology, clinical nutrition, dental and medicine participate in Murdoch Center's Student Affiliation Program.

Murdoch Center Human Rights Committee

N. C. General Statute 122C-64 mandates Human Rights Committees to monitor and protect the human, civil, legal, and treatment rights of people living in facilities such as Murdoch Center.  Parents, guardians or others having concerns about violations of rights are encouraged to first contact management and Advocacy Services at the Center.  However, the Human Rights Committee is available to hear any unresolved concerns or issues.  To contact a member of the Murdoch Center Human Rights Committee, please call Advocacy Services at (919) 575-1030, Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Licensure and Certification

Murdoch Center is granted ICF / MR certification from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Facility Services (for licensure), and the US Department of Health and Human Services for Participation in Medicaid and Medicare (for certification).

Murdoch Center Program Library

The Murdoch Center Program Library is a collection of almost 1000 task analyses of specific skills which are particularly applicable to the habilitation of persons with severe and profound mental retardation.  These task analyses, or programs, form an instructional system which is very easy to master, using only two teaching methods, and a uniform self-graphing data system for all the programs.  The Third Edition became available Winter 1997.  More information can be obtained from http://www.murdochfoundation.org.

North Carolina Support Needs Assessment Profile
(NC-SNAP)

Murdoch Center coordinates the statewide implementation of the NC-SNAP.  Also known outside North Carolina as the Developmental Disabilities Support Needs Assessment Profile (DD-SNAP), this is an assessment tool that can be used to consistently and reliably assess a person's level of intensity of need for supports and services.  It was developed in response to a systematic need identified by the North Carolina Developmental Disabilities Policy Workgroup.  The NC-SNAP is currently used in North Carolina and several other states.

More information can be obtained from http://www.murdochfoundation.org  or by calling the NC-SNAP Coordinator at Murdoch Center, (919) 575-1000.

Generations-Tadpole

The Tadpole Lending Library was established in 1992 by Rehab Therapy, Inc., a private rehabilitation agency serving the therapeutic needs of individuals with disabilities and children with special needs.  In 1997 Tadpole moved to Murdoch Center under the guidance of Murdoch Center's Assistive Technology Team.  In 1999 Tadpole expanded to Generations-Tadpole and now serves individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities.

Generations-Tadpole lends and delivers low-tech assistive technology devices and toys FREE to families and professionals all across North Carolina.  Anyone working with an individual with a disability is eligible to borrow items and to receive free shipping.
