The purpose of Murdoch Center Advocacy Department is to provide individuals residing at the Center an avenue to voice concerns regarding care and/or treatment. It also teaches self-advocacy, and advocates on the individuals' behalf. Protection of the individuals' rights is in accordance with the Federal and North Carolina State statutes, Intermediate Care Facility Regulations, Human Rights Rules, and Murdoch Center Policies and Procedures. The Murdoch Center Human Rights Committee consists of ten members appointed by the Secretary of DHHS to monitor the protection of the human, civil, legal and treatment rights of those living in the facility. The committee reviews cases of alleged rights violations and mistreatment. Members of the Human Rights Committee are available to hear the concerns of any client, parent, or guardian if violations of rights occur.
