Business
The Business Department has administrative responsibility for the overall operation of fiscal, physical plant, and auxiliary services. It includes Budget Department, Environmental Services, Food and Nutrition, Patient Relations, Plant Operations, Print Shop / Mailroom, Purchasing / Warehouse, and Transportation.
Budget Department
The Budget Department provides budgeting services for Murdoch Developmental Center through funds management of six different budget codes, cost reporting for all services, and provides managers with the information and reports required to oversee their budgets. Additionally, this department provides cashier services, timekeeping services, trust fund management, and inventory management. The Budget Office serves as the primary liaison between Murdoch Developmental Center and the DHHS Controller's Office to ensure accurate financial accountability.
Environmental Services
Environmental Services Department is composed of 80 employees who are assigned to Housekeeping, Pest Control, Laundry/Linen, Sewing, and Campus Clothing Store. Its mission is to ensure that the Center's 38 buildings, totaling over 588,000 square feet of floor space, are maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner. The Environmental Services Department takes pride in keeping the living areas clean and safe for individuals who live at Murdoch Developmental Center.
Food and Nutrition Services
Food and Nutrition Services is an extremely complex system, designed to optimize the health and well-being of each individual who lives at Murdoch Developmental Center. Its mission is to provide three nutritionally-balanced meals and snacks each day. Each individual receives a customized meal and snack plan, based on his or her nutritional needs.
Clinical Dietitians serve as liaison between Food and Nutrition Services and the Cottages.
Patient Relations
The Patient Relations Department is responsible for recovering the cost of individual care at the institution through federal, state, local, and insurance reimbursement sources. It also works with staff, family members, and guardians to provide financial consultation regarding individual personal funds.
Plant Operations
Murdoch Developmental Center Plant Operations serves the individuals who live here through the timely provision of engineering, maintenance, carpentry and grounds maintenance services. Plant Operations carries the responsibility of maintaining and preserving Murdoch Center's facilities, equipment, and grounds. Maintaining the physical plant is essential to enhancing the overall residential and habilitative environment.
Print Shop / Mail Room
The Print Shop produces a wide variety of printed materials for use by and in support of Murdoch Developmental Center employees. Print shop employees operate commercial grade off-set presses in the production of large print jobs and high volume copiers for smaller jobs. It also handles campus mail functions, sorting all incoming, outgoing, and state courier mail.
Purchasing / Warehouse
These departments are responsible for the procurement and distribution of the wide variety of goods and equipment necessary for the care of the individuals who live at Murdoch Developmental Center. The Purchasing Office strives to obtain maximum value for the tax dollar by fostering competition and following the guiding principle of fairness to all vendors who wish to compete for the opportunity to sell to Murdoch Center. The Warehouse is responsible for the inventory, safe storage, and delivery of products.
Transportation
The primary purpose of the Transportation Department is to provide a safe means of transport for the individuals who live at Murdoch Developmental Center to and from their campus residences and medical destinations. It also operates the center ambulance and administers emergency care en route to hospitals. Additional responsibilities include transportation of admissions and discharges, campus courier runs, and pharmacy deliveries to residential areas.
