Residential
The Department includes Residential Services for Alpine,, Beacon, Briarwood, Edgewood, Infirmary, Meadowview, Newport, Meadowview Cottage(BART and STARS, Parkview, Pineview, Ridgeway, Royall, Summerset(PATH and MATCH) and Woodside Cottages.
All residential areas at Murdoch Developmental Center provide a warm, homelike environment where both individuals and staff are treated with dignity and respect. The living areas are designed to meet the person-centered needs and desires of the individuals living there. Bedrooms and living areas are individualized with personal possessions reflective of the individual's desires and personality.
Most residential cottages provide living and programming space for 48 individuals in 3 units. The majority of individuals served are adults with severe/profound cognitive challenges. Many have several health and/or behavioral needs at the same time. The primary function of programming is to meet the needs and desires of the individuals, developing new skills while maintaining and refining existing skills. This is accomplished through teaching efforts in the functional living areas (e.g., daily living, self-help programming), classrooms, recreation, communication, and vocational settings. All areas comply with the Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF / MR) standards as provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Alpine Cottage
Alpine Cottage serves 30 individuals who function in the profound range of intellectual/developmental disabilities, ranging in age from 27-71 years. The cottage serves medically fragile individuals who require 24-hour nursing care. Medical issues experienced by these individuals include gastrostomy tubes, jejunostomy tubes, tracheostomy tubes, gastrointestinal problems, frequent pneumonia and advanced cardiac, renal, neurological and other organic problems. Programming involves sensory stimulation, improving or increasing eating / drinking skills, increasing communication skills, and object manipulation.
Beacon Cottage
With accommodations for 48 men and women in 3 units, Beacon Cottage is committed to the belief that individuals can reach their maximum potential in a nurturing and respectful environment.
Briarwood Cottage
Dedicated to providing high-quality, person-centered services to 48 men and women, some of whom have multiple challenges, Briarwood Cottage focuses its treatment efforts in all 3 units on goals and activities that promote happiness, physical wellness and fitness, socialization, communication, vocation, money management, and motor coordination.
Edgewood Cottage
Edgewood is a residential cottage that provides training, habilitation, and health services to 48 individuals, most of whom are adults. These individuals have a diagnosis of severe/profound cognitive challenges and many have multiple, additional disabilities. Edgewood is comprised of two male units and one female unit each housing 16 individuals and is fortunate to have an indoor pool and gym within the cottage.
Infirmary
The Infirmary is an ICF-MR certified 29-bed unit which provides 24-hour nursing care to individuals requiring hospitalization to treat acute illnesses, as well as comprehensive permanent residential care for individuals who require intensive 24-hour nursing care. The Infirmary provides emergency response and professional nursing coverage in residential areas after the nurses in those areas have left duty. It also provides assessment and treatment of employee injuries for the entire campus after hours, and on weekends and holidays, and ensures administrative staff are informed of events as indicated per policy.
Meadowview Cottage (BART and STARS)
Meadowview's program consists of two statewide programs, the Behaviorally Advanced Residential Treatment (BART) program, and the Specialized Treatment for Adolescents in a Residential setting (STARS) program.
Newport Cottage
Newport Cottage serves 48 individuals in 3 living units. Two units are for males and one is for females. Ages vary from 20 years to 67 years of age. Behavior management plays a key role in all aspects of programming. Newport's person-centered philosophy is to assist each individual in attaining the skills and abilities necessary to function as independently as possible in the least restrictive environment. The program strives to create a safe, homelike atmosphere, providing many opportunities for work, relaxation, and recreation.
Parkview Cottage
Parkview Cottage serves a geriatric population in addition to individuals who are in declining health. It serves 42 individuals who function in the profound to moderate range of cognitive impairment. Most of the individuals have multiple handicaps, including visual and auditory impairments and significant medical problems associated with the aging process. Many require the assistance of a wheelchair or walker. Programs focus on reducing the rate of loss of skills that accompanies the physical aspects of the aging process. Much time is devoted to providing the necessary medical / nursing services which the elderly require.
Pineview Cottage
With accommodations for 48 men and women in 3 units, Pineview Cottage is committed to the belief that individuals can reach their maximum potential in a nurturing and respectful environment.
Ridgeway
Ridgeway Cottage serves 45 primarily nonambulatory, nonmobile individuals with severe/profound intellectual/developmental disabilities requiring 24-hour-a-day licensed nursing care and who range in age from 26-75 years. All individuals require some degree of assistance in bathing, dressing, feeding, and grooming due to physical limitations. Emphasis throughout the day is placed on positioning, gross motor activities, basic self-help skills, increased communication skills, and health care needs. Medical concerns include: seizure disorders, gastrointestinal problems (approximately one-half of the individuals require tube feedings), neurogenic bladders, chronic respiratory problems, brittle diabetes, etc.
Royall Cottage
Home to 48 individuals, Royall Cottage consists of 3 units, one for females and two for men, one of which is designed to serve non-ambulatory individuals. The primary function of the person-centered programs at Royall Cottage is to develop new skills while maintaining and refining existing skills. This is accomplished in a warm, homelike environment where both staff and individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
Summerset Cottage (PATH and MATCH)
Summerset's program consists of one statewide program, Partners in Autism Treatment and Habilitation (PATH) program, and an internal program called MATCH (Murdoch ASD Treatment and Clinical Habilitation). The PATH program consists of approximately 10 children who live at Summerset Cottage and 2 co-ed community group homes, each serving 4 individuals. The PATH group home is located in Oxford. The Wright group home is located in Franklinton. The MATCH program will serve approximately 12 adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. All services are designed both to reduce behavioral excesses as well as to accelerate positive social skills. Treatment includes person-centered teaching in the areas of self-help, education, communication, and recreation as deemed necessary by the interdisciplinary treatment team.
Woodside Cottage
With accommodations for 48 men and women in 3 units, Woodside Cottage is committed to the belief that individuals can reach their maximum potential in a nurturing and respectful environment. This environment offers varied training programs designed to make individuals as independent as possible.
